Date Eid al-Fitr in Canada 2019

Eid al-Fitr in canada 2019 is on Wednesday, the 5th of June 2019

Note that in the Muslim calander, a holiday begins on the sunset of the previous day, so observing Muslims will celebrate Eid al-Fitr on the sunset of Tuesday, the 4th of June.

Although Eid al-Fitr is always on the same day of the Islamic calendar, the date on the Gregorian calendar varies from year to year, since the Gregorian calendar is a solar calendar and the Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar. This difference means Eid al-Fitr moves in the Gregorian calendar approximately 11 days every year. The date of Eid al-Fitr may also vary from country to country depending on whether the moon has been sighted or not.

The dates provided here are based on the dates adopted by the Fiqh Council of North America for the celebration of Eid al-Fitr. Note that these dates are based on astronomical calculations to affirm each date, and not on the actual sighting of the moon with the naked eyes. This approach is accepted by many, but is still being hotly debated.

Celebration\ Observance
This day is celebrating the the end of the 29 to 30 days of fasting for the month of Ramadan. Often celebrated outdoors in a large space or inside a big hall or mosque Muslims will pray and later prepare a special feast to give thanks and praise to God. Eid al-Fitr is not a federal national holiday but rather an observance to mark the end of the month of Ramadan and celebrate with a feast to praise god.

History
The tradition of Eid al-Fitr was originated out of festivals in Madinah after the migration of the prophet Muhammad from Mecca. This day has many different names including Feast of Breaking the Fast, Sugar Feast, Bayram and the Sweet Festival.
